Founded in 1983 by Tom Muse and Ray Stancil, Muse, Stancil & Co. was established in Dallas, Texas as a specialist energy consultancy serving the most complex segments of the global energy industry.

 

From the outset, the firm focused on the downstream and midstream sectors, delivering independent technical, economic, and strategic advisory services to leading market participants worldwide.Muse expanded its international presence with offices in London, Houston, and Singapore, reflecting its commitment to serving clients across the world’s most important energy hubs.

 

The firm’s reputation has been built on the depth and caliber of its people. Muse consultants are primarily professional engineers with extensive experience across major global energy companies. This foundation of real-world expertise underpins advanced capabilities in refining economics, market analysis, process engineering, and project development, supported by rigorous work in valuation, feasibility studies, and strategic planning.

 

Muse serves a distinguished and highly diverse global client base, including financial and investment institutions, exploration and production companies, refiners, petrochemical producers and trading organizations, government entities and national oil companies, legal advisors, alternative energy developers, transport and storage operators, technology providers, and insurance firms.

Tom brings over 40 years of experience developing and operating petroleum processing projects worldwide. A co-founder of Muse, Stancil & Co., he has led the creation of companies, joint ventures, and energy infrastructure projects including plants, pipelines, and marketing operations. He has served as CEO or director for numerous operating companies.

Neal Earnest

Neil brings over 30 years of global downstream consulting experience, including expert testimony in international arbitration, U.S. federal and state courts, and major regulatory proceedings. Formerly with Phillips Petroleum Company, Neil holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and an MBA, and is a licensed Professional Engineer in Texas.

Tod brings over 30 years of downstream energy experience, advising clients worldwide on refining economics, market analysis, and business strategy. Prior to joining Muse in 2003, he held leadership roles with major U.S. refining and marketing companies. He holds degrees in Chemical Engineering and Materials Science from the University of Connecticut.

John Renwick

John leads Muse’s Asset Performance Practice and brings over 30 years of global refining and marketing experience. His work includes refinery operations analysis, asset valuation, project evaluation, and competitive market studies. He is highly experienced in LP modeling to support complex refinery valuations and operational planning.

Kirk Moser

Kirk brings over 20 years of experience in petroleum refining, natural gas processing, and pipeline operations. His expertise includes asset valuation, price forecasting, economic modeling, and business strategy. Prior to joining Muse, he held financial and audit roles with ExxonMobil. He is an Accredited Member in Business Valuation (ASA).

Mr. Lakani is an executive in the energy sector with 34 years of experience in upstream, midstream, and downstream projects. He is the Managing Consultant of Muse Stancil in London. He has previously worked for ExxonMobil, Premier Oil, BG Group, Shell, Schlumberger, PetroCanada, GCA, Halliburton & HARPS Marine.
